Laura Stamm's Power Skating Tip

Skate Tying Tips

Most coaches tell players to tie their skates tight all the way up. However, I suggest that you lace the top eyelet of your skates either loosely or not at all. The reason is to be able to flex your ankles toward the inside and outside for more effective edging capability. Also, tape around the ankles is a no-no for my players. The combination of tight lacing at the top and tape around the ankles has the same effect as putting your feet in casts. They become rigid and can't flex!

Next, I suggest that you keep the tongue of your skates over the shin pads. This will allow you to bend your knees more effectively.

Bending knees and ankles is Crucial for great skating!
